It’s that time of year again. The leaves are turning beautiful hues of red, orange, and yellow. The air is getting cool and crisp. Halloween is right around the corner. What better October activity to do than to head to the pumpkin patch! This year I visited Taves Family Farms located in Abbotsford, BC. It was such a lovely experience. The moment you enter the farm, you can feel the upbeat energy. The country music playing through the speakers. The kids running around enjoying all the activities. And all the farm animals like chickens, pigs and goats playing. Take your partner on a date or head over with your kids. It is a great place for all ages. In this blog post, I will be sharing some of the wonderful things you can currently do at Taves Family Farms.
Taves Family Farms is a great place to check out because they not only have pumpkins, but they also have delicious apples! They carry so many varieties and you can walk through the rows of orchards and pick the apples yourself. What a cool experience to get to physically harvest your own apples to eat. Granted, by October many of the apples have been picked. But there are still lots available in bags for easy purchase from the Applebarn Country Store. They’ve got everyone’s favourite kind of apples, Fuji, Gala, Ambrosia, Goji, Sunrise, Alkmene, Gravenstein and my personal favourite, Honeycrisp! There is nothing better than biting into a fresh crisp apple.
After you’ve wandered through the apples, you will find the big fields full of pumpkins. They’ve got a great range of sizes so you can find the perfect pumpkin for you. In one of the pumpkin fields, you will find a beautiful princess carriage perfect for photoshoots! Feel free to hop on the hayride to help you get back to the front of the farm with those heavy pumpkins.
In addition to the regular pumpkin fields, Taves Family Farms has created a wonderful display of pumpkins called the Pumpkin Path. You will find beautiful pink, white, blue, orange pumpkins and other gourds gathered to create a twisting pathway. You can walk along this path and admire the gorgeous arrangements that are so pleasing to the eye. There are fun props included like a cruiser bike, a bridge you can walk over and a pumpkin house. You can also spot some cool designs worked into this display made by the differing pumpkins and gourdes shapes and colours. The pink and blue pumpkins really caught my eye as I had never seen pumpkins of this colour before!
Near the Pumpkin Path, you can find one of the corn mazes (they have three!). There is also a super fun mystery maze van that looks just like the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo. Another great photo opportunity.
Make sure to spend some time seeing the animals. The goats were friendly and curious of me as I took their picture through the fence. They had a path built for the goats so that they could explore around even upon the rooftops! The rooster was singing his cock-a-doodle-do loud and clear, keeping his hens in line. I loved seeing the little pig scratching his head on the fence with satisfaction. So cute!
Near the entrance of the farm, you can find the Applebarn Country Store. The store is packed full of so many delicious goodies. Pick up a pumpkin pie, try some Taves Family Farms apple butter, bags of fresh apples, and so many other apple and pumpkin-inspired treats! They also have a menu of some items that you can order. I tried the Apple Cider Slushie and it was so refreshing after exploring the whole farm. It is made with 100% fresh apple juice. So good! If you don’t have the time to wander through the apple orchards or pumpkin fields, the Applebarn Country Store is a great place to head to quickly grab pumpkins and apples ready to go.
A new addition to the Taves Family Farms is the Taves Estate Cidery. Here you can choose from a variety of flavoured ciders to enjoy. They have a nice selection of both hard and soft ciders. Their hard cider flavours include Rooster’s Red Currant Cider, Ram’s Black Currant Cider, Billy’s Best Apple Cider, and Gander’s Gooseberry Cider. They also carry some seasonal flavours such as Pete’s Perry and Charlie’s Pumpkin Cider. As for the soft ciders they offer, you can get Classic Cider, Spiced Cider, Sparkling Black Currant Cider and more! Not sure what kind to buy? Grab their Barnyard 4 pack to try a range of flavours. Or spend some time in the tasting room and discover your new favourite cider! Check out all the Taves Estate Cidery offerings here.
There are even more activities you can do at Taves Family Farms like visiting Farmville where they have a jumping pillow, pedal karts and an outdoor animal viewing area. I love that there are tons of activities to do with your kids but there are also lots aimed at adults like the Taves Estate Cidery. There is truly something for everyone and is a must-see pumpkin patch. You can spend the whole day there and you’ll leave with your car stocked full of pumpkins, apples and treats. Truly the most perfect October day. I hope you can make it out to Taves Family Farms this year! You can learn more here.
